WHAT’S ITS HISTORY?
European history tells us many things about the finest mirrors of the past. We can see many different designs and styles spread out across country and culture, but many have a common thread.
A time just a few centuries ago, a master craftsman found himself in great spirits thanks to his newly won client who wanted him to craft for him the ‘best mirror’.
The craftsman spent days refining the design, drafting with parchment and ink. He knew in strong essence what it was he had to do, and got to it.
The hard work continued, he was enveloped in the craft, developed blisters on his hands, the pain was real.
Finally he knew that he had done it, he had produced a mirror of such beauty, such grandeur, that he knew it was perfect for his extravagant client.
This mirror, is the essence of that era. It’s existence steadfast to this day thanks to its unbeatably natural handmade styles inspired from some of the most exuberant mirrors European culture had to offer.
The painstaking hard work, toil and strife, makes the common thread with this mirror today.
However, thanks to modern technology, we are able to take the finest designs of the past and craft mirrors to the same level of aesthetic detail, and bring them straight to you.
WHAT’S IT GOOD FOR & WHAT DOES IT GO WITH?
From extravagant classical decorum, to modern chic design, this mirror weaves a pattern in the mind of tales old and new.
The beautiful banquet hall mirror to the contemporary minimalist shabby chic shack, this mirror caters for the bold and beautiful, looking for a sense of class while, if sought after, still being able to maintain a sense of modernity.
This antique design took inspiration from the mirror fashions of Western European cultures between the middle ages and early modern history.
As such it is ideal for someone looking to recreate such a style, or to take its design and create something completely new.
It can also work well within most spaces throughout the home, stylised or not, thanks to its sophisticated ornately designed elements, which often enhance surrounding objects providing the mirror or the objects are chosen appropriately.
The Monksilver is available in 5 different colours; Silver, Gold, White, Black or Ivory.
In certain lighting, the silver has subtle notes of champagne colouring, providing a gentle multi-tonal effect.
The gold mirror carries a certain bronzed colouration effect around the ornate detailing.
The ivory likewise, with subtle darker areas around the detail, providing a replica of true ivory colouring.
WHAT’S IT MADE OF?
The mirror pane comes with a small bevelled edge which adds strength while creating a more shapely look.
The mirror frame is made from multiple high-resin plywood boards which are tough and durable, of which the ornate design is then carefully milled out by our expert craftsmen.
The frame is then taken to finishing to be brush painted. The residing effect on the metallic based paints, such as silver and gold, being that of a subtle brushed metal that is cool to the touch. The reverse of the mirror is kept unpainted.
