A garden gate that opens onto light
This outdoor mirror with shutters pairs the romance of a wrought-iron garden gate with the light-catching practicality of a wall mirror. A recent addition to our Countisbury Collection range, it was chosen for its convincing aged finish and the playful way the hinged gates frame — or reveal — the reflection beneath.
Design & Materials
The frame and shutters are crafted from steel, shaped into flowing scrollwork with vertical bars, S-curves, and a central medallion motif. A fleur-de-lis finial crowns the arch top, adding a traditional flourish. The entire frame is finished in a soft, weathered green that reads as genuinely aged — the kind of patina you would expect on vintage metalwork left to weather gracefully. Two hinged shutter doors swing open to expose the clear mirror glass, or close across it for a purely decorative look. A plastic sheet backing board protects the rear. We recommend this mirror when customers ask for an ornate metal arch wall mirror with real character.
Size & Placement
At 102 cm tall and 61 cm wide, this is a generous piece that makes a statement without overwhelming a garden wall or fence panel. It works beautifully mounted on rendered walls, brick, or timber — anywhere you want to bounce greenery back into the space and create the illusion of a hidden garden beyond a gate. Position it opposite planting or at the end of a narrow courtyard for maximum impact. Indoors, the rustic decorative wall mirror aesthetic sits naturally in hallways, conservatories, and living rooms styled with antique or vintage furnishings. Its flat bottom also means it can lean against a wall on a mantelpiece or console table, though wall-mounting gives the shutters room to swing freely. With a depth of just 1.5 cm when the gates are closed, it sits neatly flush against most surfaces.
Hanging & Installation
The mirror has two keyhole fixings on the back for portrait hanging, so you simply hook it onto two screws already set in the wall. At 7 kg it is manageable for one person, though having someone steady the frame while you align the keyholes makes the job quicker. Do not use string, wire, or chain to hang this mirror. Wall screws and rawl plugs are not included — choose fixings appropriate for your wall type, whether that is solid masonry, brick, or timber battens. For outdoor use, stainless-steel or galvanised screws will resist corrosion and keep the mirror securely in place season after season.
