Built for the garden, equally at home indoors
This shuttered garden mirror brings the charm of a weathered cottage window to any wall, inside or out. A recent addition to our Triscombe Collection range, it was chosen for its distinctive hinged shutter doors and hand-finished patina that sets it apart from simpler outdoor designs.
Design & Materials
The frame is constructed from steel with a deliberately distressed finish that layers warm bronze tones over darker undertones flecked with verdigris green — convincingly aged, as though it has spent seasons outdoors. Each shutter door is divided by slender metal glazing bars in a traditional window-pane pattern, crowned by an arched fanlight section. A small latch clasp at the centre holds the doors closed; swing them open and the shutters fold flat against the wall, fully exposing the glass. In our experience, the open-shutter position is how most customers display this piece, though the closed look is equally striking. The mirror glass is clear and unadorned, backed by a plastic sheet board for added outdoor protection. At just 2.5 cm deep, the frame sits close to the wall even with shutters folded back.
Size & Placement
At 78 cm tall by 61 cm wide, this is a compact arch window mirror that suits spaces where a larger piece might overwhelm. It sits comfortably above a garden bench, potting table, or low stone wall, reflecting greenery and sky to create the illusion of a second window. We often suggest mounting it on rendered or brick surfaces where the rustic metal finish contrasts with lighter backgrounds. Indoors, the same mirror works beautifully above a console in a hallway, in a country kitchen, or on a panelled living-room wall. The industrial metal frame and vintage patina pair naturally with reclaimed wood, wrought-iron fixtures, and exposed brick. Because it has a flat bottom edge, you could also lean it on a deep shelf or mantelpiece.
Hanging & Installation
Two keyhole fixings on the back — one on each side — let you hook the mirror onto a pair of screws at the correct spacing. At 5 kg it is light enough for one person to lift, though a second pair of hands helps when aligning keyhole slots. Wall screws and rawl plugs are not included; use fixings appropriate to your wall type — standard plugs for brick or block, plasterboard anchors for stud walls. Do not use string, wire, or chain. For outdoor installation, stainless-steel or weather-resistant screws will help prevent corrosion at the fixing points.
