Built for the garden, equally at home indoors
This vintage garden mirror pairs a slender gothic arch profile with warm, rustic ironwork — a combination that creates instant character on a bare garden wall or inside a period-styled room. A recent addition to our Shillingford Collection range, chosen for its chapel-window charm and weatherproof construction.
Design & Materials
The frame is formed from steel with a hand-applied distressed finish that blends deep bronze, copper, and dark brown tones. Close up, the patina has the textured, time-worn look of aged wrought iron — deliberate rather than uniform, so each piece carries subtle variation. A grid of vertical and horizontal bars divides the lower portion into small window panes, secured at every junction with a raised stud detail. Above, the pointed arch opens into a decorative scrollwork fan that draws the eye upward and softens the otherwise linear grid. The mirror glass behind is clear and unembellished, letting the metalwork do the talking, while a plastic sheet backing board protects the rear from moisture and debris. In our experience, this style of large rustic window mirror works best against rendered, brick, or stone surfaces where the distressed frame echoes natural textures rather than competing with them.
Size & Placement
At 120 cm tall and 40 cm wide, this is a deliberately narrow, portrait-format piece — tall enough to reflect sky, foliage, or ceiling height without demanding a wide stretch of wall. Outdoors, we often suggest mounting it on a boundary wall or fence panel where it can bounce light deeper into the garden and create the illusion of an opening beyond. Because the base is flat, you can also lean it against a wall on a sheltered patio or in a conservatory for a relaxed, propped look. Indoors, the arch silhouette sits naturally above a console table in a hallway or at the end of a narrow landing. Customers tend to pair this with exposed brick, whitewashed walls, or warm wooden furniture — settings where the vintage metal frame and antique gold tones feel at home. The narrow 2.5 cm frame keeps the profile slim, so it layers well alongside wall art or climbing plants without feeling bulky.
Hanging & Installation
The mirror is fitted with two keyhole fixings on the back — one on each side — so you simply hook it onto a pair of screws fixed at the correct spacing. Do not use string, wire, or chain to hang this mirror. Wall screws and rawl plugs are not included; choose fixings suited to your wall type (masonry anchors for brick or stone, appropriate fixings for timber fences). At 10 kg, a second pair of hands is useful when lifting it into position and marking your drill points. If you are mounting outdoors, stainless-steel or weather-rated screws will prevent rust staining around the fixings over time.
