Shutter charm for gardens and living spaces
These metal window shutters bring a touch of continental character wherever you hang them. Styled after traditional Italian louvred shutters, the piece pairs a central mirror panel with two hinged shutter doors, creating a convincing window illusion on a bare wall. Customers tell us this mirror often exceeds expectations once in place — the depth and detail read far richer than photographs suggest.
Design & Materials
The frame is constructed from solid steel with a deliberately distressed, dark finish that blends tones of near-black and warm brown. Each shutter door features rows of horizontal louvres with visible brush marks, subtle rust-effect patina, and rounded pull handles that add an authentic, three-dimensional quality more akin to 3D metal wall art than a flat mirror. Behind the shutters sits a clear mirror panel — not bevelled — which catches light and greenery when the doors are partly open. A plastic sheet backing board seals the rear. In our experience, the weathered steel finish sits comfortably alongside both rustic brickwork and rendered garden walls, making it equally at home indoors among vintage or industrial décor.
Size & Placement
Measuring 90 cm high by 60 cm wide, this is a generously sized piece of metal wall art for outside or in. On an exterior garden wall, it creates the illusion of a real shuttered window — a favourite technique for adding depth to courtyard or patio areas. Mounted above a planter shelf or window box, it transforms a plain boundary into something with genuine charm. As outdoor garden metal wall art, it works beautifully on brick, stone, or rendered surfaces. Indoors, we often suggest this for hallways, conservatories, or kitchens where its steel window shutters detailing and rustic patina feel right at home. The flat bottom means you can also lean it on a shelf or mantelpiece for a more relaxed, propped display. At 8 kg, it has a reassuring solidity without being unwieldy.
Hanging & Installation
The mirror has two keyhole fixings on the back — one on each side — so you simply hook it onto a pair of screws drilled at the correct spacing. Do not use string, wire, or chain to hang this mirror. Wall screws and rawl plugs are not included; use fixings appropriate for your wall type. For exterior brick or stone, standard masonry plugs and screws will handle the 8 kg weight comfortably. On indoor stud walls, toggle or spring-toggle fixings are the safer choice. We recommend marking your screw positions with a spirit level before drilling to ensure the shutters sit perfectly straight.
