This big vintage mirror delivers the kind of presence that smaller pieces simply cannot match. Drawn from our Bossington Collection range, a line we return to often when customers ask for richly ornate, traditional styling.
Design & Materials
The frame is built from a hardwood core with casting-resin ornamental detailing, finished in a warm antique gold that sits between matte and lightly burnished. Up close, you can see multiple layers of texture: bold acanthus-leaf carvings at each corner, a continuous rope-twist moulding along the outer edge, a row of raised beading on the inner rail, and delicate floral rosettes punctuating the mid-sections. The gold tone is deliberately uneven — deeper in the recesses, lighter across the flat bands — giving the frame a genuinely aged, antique appearance rather than a flat metallic look. Bevelled mirror glass catches and redirects light beautifully, adding a subtle prismatic edge that lifts the whole piece. In our experience, this combination of ornate gold detailing and generous proportions is what draws people to vintage-style mirrors over plainer alternatives.
Size & Placement
At 185 cm tall and 123 cm wide, this is an extra large ornate gold mirror that commands attention without needing an enormous wall. Hung in portrait above a console table or sideboard, it fills the space generously while the decorative frame provides a natural border. In landscape, it works brilliantly as an overmantle above a wide fireplace — the proportions suit chimney breasts of around 140 cm or more. Thanks to its flat bottom edge, you can also lean this large gold rectangular wall mirror against a wall for a relaxed, contemporary feel, which suits bedrooms and dressing areas particularly well. The 5 cm depth keeps the frame close to the wall whether hung or leaned. If your room leans towards antique, baroque or Victorian décor, the frame will sit right at home; equally, it provides a striking contrast in more pared-back modern interiors where a single statement piece is all you need.
Hanging & Installation
Four D-loops are pre-fitted to the back of the frame — two positioned for portrait hanging and two for landscape — so you can choose your preferred orientation without additional hardware. Simply align your wall screws with the D-loop centres and hang the mirror directly. Do not use wire, string or chain, as the mirror weighs 35 kg and needs a secure, fixed connection to the wall. At this weight, we strongly recommend a two-person lift for positioning, and you should use fixings appropriate for your wall type: heavy-duty rawl plugs and screws for masonry, or specialist plasterboard anchors rated for the load if you are fixing into stud walls. Wall screws and rawl plugs are not included.
For a clean, flush-wall finish, we recommend pairing this mirror with our heavy-duty mirror fittings kit — a hook-and-loop back-plate system designed to sit flat against solid frames.
