This extra large gold ornate mirror is the kind of piece that transforms a room the moment you lean it against a wall. Part of our Bossington Collection range, a collection that sells consistently well with our living room and hallway customers, it combines commanding scale with genuinely intricate frame detailing that holds up to close inspection.
Design & Materials
The frame is built from a hardwood core overlaid with cast resin, allowing the ornate moulding to carry a level of depth and crispness that flat-profile frames simply cannot match. Each corner features a pronounced cartouche of acanthus leaves and floral rosettes, while the rails between are layered with rope-twist borders, beaded inner trim, and a recessed laurel-leaf band. The gold finish has an aged, mid-toned warmth — not bright or brassy, closer to antique gold — with darker tones settling naturally into the carved recesses to accentuate the relief. The mirror glass itself is bevelled around its full perimeter, catching light at the edges and adding a quiet refinement that complements the richness of the surround.
Size & Placement
At 215 cm tall and 154 cm wide, this is a large gold rectangular wall mirror that demands a considered position. Propped against a wall in portrait orientation, it creates a full-length leaner that anchors a sitting room, master bedroom, or entrance hall — we often suggest this for period properties where the proportions of the rooms can support a generous piece. In landscape, it works beautifully as an overmantle in rooms with taller chimney breasts, or centred on a dining room wall to amplify both natural light and the sense of space. The flat bottom edge sits steadily on hard flooring or thick carpet, making it practical as a large ornate gold vintage mirror leaning behind a console table or at the end of a landing.
Hanging & Installation
Four D-loops are pre-fitted to the back of the frame, positioned to support both portrait and landscape hanging. Line your wall screws up with the centre of each D-loop and hang the mirror directly — do not use wire, string, or chain. At 40 kg, this is a two-person lift and must be fixed into a wall that can bear the load; for stud walls, locate the timbers and use appropriate fixings, while masonry walls will need heavy-duty rawl plugs and screws (not included). The frame depth is approximately 5 cm, so allow clearance for skirting boards if leaning.
For a clean, flush-wall finish, we recommend pairing this mirror with our heavy-duty mirror fittings kit — a hook-and-loop back-plate system designed to sit flat against solid frames.
