Built for the garden, loved indoors too
This mirrored obelisk garden ornament is something genuinely different — a free-standing sculpture that brings movement and reflected light into outdoor and indoor spaces alike. A recent addition to our Hawkridge Collection range, it was chosen for its bold architectural form and all-weather durability.
Design & Materials
The obelisk’s slender, tapered silhouette rises to a sharply defined pyramid apex, creating a form that recalls classical garden follies reimagined through a modern, geometric lens. Four clear mirror panels are set into a matte black steel frame, each panel narrowing as it climbs. The steel has a smooth, powder-coat-style finish that resists weathering and sits cleanly against the bright reflective glass. Vertical frame bars run the full height of the piece, meeting at the pointed top through a triangular open-framework crown — a detail that gives the design its signature profile. At the base, the mirrored panels extend almost to ground level, reflecting paving, planting, or flooring beneath. In our experience, it is this ground-level reflection that makes mirrored obelisks so effective in garden settings: they visually double the borders and beds around them.
Size & Placement
At 120 cm tall and just 25 cm wide at the base, this is a deliberately slender piece. It occupies very little floor space — roughly the same footprint as a large potted plant — yet its height and reflective surfaces give it real presence. Outdoors, position it among planters on a patio or deck, at the end of a garden path as a focal point, or beside a border to bounce colour and greenery back into the garden. It works beautifully as a large free standing mirror ornament on a balcony or roof terrace where space is tight but impact matters. Indoors, it makes a sculptural statement beside a window in a living room, in a wide hallway, or tucked into a corner where you want light redirected. Customers tend to pair this with natural textures — stone, timber, or linen — that contrast its clean black metal frame. The modern free standing mirror silhouette also suits contemporary, industrial, or minimalist schemes without competing with other furniture.
Hanging & Installation
This ornament is entirely free-standing and requires no wall mounting. Fixing holes are pre-drilled into brackets around the base, allowing you to secure the obelisk to the ground or floor with bolts or screws. If placing outside, we recommend that you do this to avoid wind blowing it over and breaking the glass — a sensible precaution given the piece weighs 10 kg and its tall, narrow profile can catch a breeze. Screws and bolts are not included; use fixings suitable for your floor type, whether that is decking, concrete, paving slabs, or an interior timber floor. Indoors on a flat, stable surface the obelisk stands securely under its own weight, though anchoring is still an option if you prefer extra peace of mind.
