This large black decorative wall mirror pairs generous proportions with ornate traditional detailing, giving you a piece that anchors a room without feeling fussy. A steady performer in our Wall Mirrors line-up — chosen repeatedly by customers looking for classic black frames with real presence.
Design & Materials
The frame is built from hardwood and casting resin, combining structural rigidity with the fine moulded detail you can see at each corner — scrolling acanthus-leaf carvings that fan outward from a central shell motif. A beaded inner edge runs the full perimeter, adding a layer of texture between the ornate corners and the clear mirror glass. The whole frame is finished in a consistent matt black that keeps the decorative work visible without adding shine, so it reads as a large black ornate mirror rather than a high-gloss piece. In our experience, this type of tonal finish sits comfortably alongside both modern and vintage décor — it complements dark wood furniture, pairs cleanly with neutral walls, and holds its own against bolder colour schemes.
Size & Placement
At 137 cm tall and 76 cm wide, this is a substantial rectangular large wall mirror that fills a space confidently. Hung portrait above a console table or sideboard, it draws the eye upward and gives the impression of more height in the room. Flip it to landscape and it works well as an overmantle or behind a sofa, stretching the perceived width of the wall. Because the base is flat, you can also lean it against a wall at floor level for a relaxed, layered look — we often suggest this for bedrooms and dressing areas where a vintage large wall mirror propped against the skirting creates an easy, lived-in feel. The 5 cm frame depth gives the mirror a reassuring solidity on the wall without protruding too far into the room, and at 9 kg it is manageable for two people to position comfortably.
Hanging & Installation
This mirror arrives fitted with four D-loops on the back, positioned so you can hang it in either portrait or landscape orientation. Line up your wall screws with the centre of the corresponding D-loops and hang the mirror directly — do not use string, wire, or chain. Wall screws and rawl plugs are not included, so choose fixings appropriate for your wall type: standard rawl plugs and screws for solid masonry, or specialist plasterboard fixings if you are mounting into a stud wall. Given the 9 kg weight, a two-person lift is sensible when positioning the mirror.
For a clean, flush-wall finish, we recommend pairing this mirror with our heavy-duty mirror fittings kit — a hook-and-loop back-plate system designed to sit flat against solid frames.
