This large gold antique mirror brings classic French elegance to any interior. A steady performer in our Wall Mirrors line-up — chosen repeatedly by customers looking for traditional ornate styling — it pairs a generous reflective surface with a frame that rewards a closer look.
Design & Materials
The frame is crafted from hardwood and casting resin, finished in a warm, burnished gold that catches the light with a subtle lustre rather than a flat shine. Each corner features a prominent cartouche with scrolling acanthus leaves and shell motifs, while the rails between carry delicate floral sprays and a continuous beaded inner border that adds depth and rhythm to the profile. At roughly 6 cm wide, the frame has real presence without overwhelming the glass. The mirror plate itself is clear and un-bevelled, giving a crisp, undistorted reflection — in our experience, this suits the ornate gold frame beautifully, keeping the focus on the decorative surround rather than competing with it.
Size & Placement
Measuring 137 cm high by 76 cm wide (5 cm deep, approximately 10 kg), this is a large ornate gold mirror that fills a wall space confidently. Hung landscape above a mantelpiece or sideboard, it works as a classic overmantle — at 76 cm tall in that orientation, it sits comfortably above most furniture without dominating the room. In portrait, it makes a striking hallway piece or a grand addition to a living room wall. The antique gold large mirror finish pairs naturally with jewel-toned walls — think deep greens, navy, or burgundy — and sits comfortably alongside both vintage furnishings and more contemporary schemes where you want a decorative wall mirror in gold to provide warmth and character. With a flat bottom edge, it can also lean against a wall on a mantel shelf or atop a console if you prefer that relaxed, layered look.
Hanging & Installation
Four D-loops are pre-fitted to the back of the frame, positioned so you can hang the mirror in either portrait or landscape. Simply align your wall screws with the centre of each D-loop and hang the mirror directly — do not use string, wire, or chain. At 10 kg, we recommend a two-person lift when positioning. Wall screws and rawl plugs are not included; use fixings appropriate for your wall type (plasterboard anchors for stud walls, masonry plugs for brick or block).
For a clean, flush-wall finish, we recommend pairing this mirror with our heavy-duty mirror fittings kit — a hook-and-loop back-plate system designed to sit flat against solid frames.
