This silver antique ornate mirror large rectangular design brings classical elegance to any room. A steady performer in our Wall Mirrors line-up — chosen repeatedly by customers looking for ornate silver framing with real presence on the wall.
Design & Materials
The frame is built from solid hardwood with a casting-resin overlay that delivers the scrolling acanthus-leaf motifs at each corner and the shell-and-cartouche details along each side rail. A fine beaded moulding runs around the inner edge, framing the clear mirror glass with a neat, defined border. The silver finish has a softly brushed quality — not a flat chrome or a high polish — that catches light with a warm, slightly aged lustre. Up close, you can see subtle tonal variation across the surface, lending the frame the depth of a vintage antique silver framed wall mirror rather than a single-coat spray. The frame profile is approximately 6 cm wide, substantial enough to feel confident on the wall yet refined enough to avoid looking heavy.
Size & Placement
At 117 cm tall and 91 cm wide, this is a generous rectangular silver wall mirror that works beautifully above a sofa, sideboard, or console table in landscape orientation, or hung portrait-style in a hallway or bedroom. In our experience, a mirror of this scale opens up a medium-sized room without overwhelming it — the ornate frame gives the eye somewhere to rest, while the expanse of glass bounces light into darker corners. With a flat bottom edge, it can also lean against a wall if you prefer the relaxed look of a floor-resting piece, though its 12 kg weight means it should always rest on a stable, level surface. This antique decorative wall mirror pairs naturally with warm metallics — brushed-brass table lamps, aged-gold picture frames — or sits just as comfortably alongside cool grey upholstery and white woodwork for a more contemporary vintage feel.
Hanging & Installation
Four D-loops are pre-fitted to the back of the frame, positioned for both portrait and landscape hanging. Align your wall screws with the centre of the corresponding D-loops and hang the mirror directly — do not use string, wire, or chain. At 12 kg this is a two-person lift, and we recommend checking your wall type before you start: plasterboard and stud walls will need appropriate cavity fixings, while solid masonry takes standard rawl plugs. Wall screws and rawl plugs are not included, so choose fixings rated for the mirror’s weight and your specific wall construction.
For a clean, flush-wall finish, we recommend pairing this mirror with our heavy-duty mirror fittings kit — a hook-and-loop back-plate system designed to sit flat against solid frames.
