This black wood wall mirror pairs a deep, glossy frame with intricate carved corner motifs to create a piece that feels both classic and bold. A steady performer in our Wall Mirrors line-up — chosen repeatedly by customers looking for ornate detailing in a dark, contemporary finish.
Design & Materials
The frame is built from a hardwood core overlaid with casting resin, which allows the ornate scrollwork and acanthus-leaf carvings to be reproduced in sharp relief. A high-gloss black lacquer covers every surface, giving the frame a polished, almost lacquered appearance that catches the light. A fine beaded inner edge runs the full perimeter, adding a subtle layer of texture between the swept frame and the clear mirror glass. The profile is generous — roughly 6 cm wide — so the frame reads as a substantial border without overwhelming the glass. In our experience, this kind of tonal frame, where the ornament and colour are one, works beautifully against both pale walls and rich, moody backdrops.
Size & Placement
Measuring 76 cm high by 66 cm wide and just 5 cm deep, this antique black wall mirror sits comfortably in the small-to-medium bracket. At that height it works well above a hallway console or bedside table without dominating the wall, while the near-square proportions keep the reflection generous. Hang it portrait above a sideboard in the living room, or turn it landscape over a mantelpiece for a vintage black wall mirror that anchors the chimney breast. The flat bottom edge also means you can rest it on a deep shelf or lean it against a wall on a dressing table for a more relaxed look. Weighing 5 kg, it is manageable for one person to position. We often suggest this for bedrooms and en-suites where you want ornate decorative detail at a compact scale — it brings drama without needing a large expanse of wall.
Hanging & Installation
This mirror comes fitted with four D-loops on the back of the frame, positioned so you can hang it in either portrait or landscape orientation. Position your wall screws to line up with the centre of the corresponding D-loops, then hang the mirror directly. Do not use string, wire, or chain. Wall screws and rawl plugs are not included — use fixings suitable for your wall type. For plasterboard or hollow walls, toggle or snap-toggle fixings are the safest option; on solid masonry, standard rawl plugs and screws will do the job well.
For a clean, flush-wall finish, we recommend pairing this mirror with our heavy-duty mirror fittings kit — a hook-and-loop back-plate system designed to sit flat against solid frames.
