This large black frame wall mirror combines classic ornate styling with a generous 140 × 109 cm footprint, giving any room a refined anchor point. Part of our Monksilver Collection range, a collection that sells consistently well with our living room and bedroom customers.
Design & Materials
The frame is constructed from hardwood and casting resin, finished in a deep matte black that absorbs light and lets the mirror glass do the talking. Each corner carries a swept acanthus-leaf carving that flows into a beaded inner border — a hallmark of vintage ornate framing. The moulded profile is approximately 6 cm wide, substantial enough to frame the glass with authority yet restrained enough to avoid overwhelming the wall. In our experience, this tonal approach — black-on-black carving with a satin-matte surface — reads as traditional without feeling heavy, slotting comfortably alongside both period furniture and contemporary dark-toned interiors. The glass itself is bevelled around its full perimeter, catching an edge of light that lifts the piece and adds a subtle sense of depth.
Size & Placement
At 140 cm tall and 109 cm wide, this is a large rectangular wall mirror that commands attention without swallowing the room. Hung landscape above a sideboard or chest of drawers — as shown in the lifestyle image — it sits beautifully as an overmantle-style centrepiece; the proportions align well with furniture between 120 and 160 cm wide. In portrait, it works as a near-full-length dressing mirror in a bedroom or as a feature piece at the end of a hallway, where the bevelled glass draws natural light deeper into the space. The flat bottom edge also means you can lean it against a wall if you prefer a more relaxed, floor-resting look. We often suggest this for living rooms and dining areas where a large black decorative mirror can anchor a gallery wall or stand alone above a mantelpiece. Its vintage styling pairs naturally with antique-finish furniture, dark wood tones, or even industrial metal shelving for a layered, collected feel.
Hanging & Installation
The mirror arrives fitted with four D-loops on the back, positioned so you can mount it in either landscape or portrait orientation. Position your wall screws to line up with the centre of the corresponding D-loops, then hang the mirror directly — do not use string, wire, or chain. At 15 kg, this is a two-person lift; one person to hold, one to mark and secure. Wall screws and rawl plugs are not included, so choose fixings appropriate for your wall type — heavy-duty anchors for plasterboard, standard plugs for solid masonry.
For a clean, flush-wall finish, we recommend pairing this mirror with our heavy-duty mirror fittings kit — a hook-and-loop back-plate system designed to sit flat against solid frames.
