This large black antique mirror brings a quiet drama to any wall it occupies. A steady performer in our Wall Mirrors line-up — chosen repeatedly by customers looking for ornate period styling in a versatile black finish.
Design & Materials
The frame is built from a hardwood core overlaid with cast resin mouldings, finished in a deep matte black. Each corner carries a generously scaled acanthus-leaf cartouche with a central rounded boss, while a fine beaded inner border runs the full perimeter. Between the corner details, the broad swept profile features smaller foliate motifs along the mid-rails, lending the frame a layered, hand-carved character. The overall effect is unmistakably vintage — a large antique wall mirror that sits comfortably alongside ornate furniture, damask fabrics, and chandelier lighting. The glass is clear and unbevelled, set within the inner bead moulding for a clean reflection area.
Size & Placement
At 137 cm tall and 46 cm wide (with a frame depth of roughly 5 cm), this is a deliberately narrow rectangular mirror designed to slot into spaces where a broader piece would overwhelm. In our experience, this proportion works particularly well in hallways alongside a console table, between bedroom windows, or in a slim alcove that needs light and visual depth. Hung in portrait, it doubles as a full-length dressing mirror; flipped to landscape above a sideboard or radiator cover, it becomes an elongated decorative accent. The flat bottom edge also means it can lean securely against a skirting board — a relaxed alternative to wall-mounting that suits bedrooms and dressing rooms. Weighing 10 kg, it is substantial enough to feel well-made yet manageable for repositioning.
Hanging & Installation
Four D-loops are pre-fitted to the back of the frame, positioned so you can hang the mirror in either portrait or landscape. Line up your wall screws with the centre of the corresponding D-loops and hang the mirror directly — do not use string, wire, or chain. Wall screws and rawl plugs are not included, so choose fixings appropriate for your wall type: standard plugs for masonry, or specialist plasterboard anchors for stud walls. Given the 10 kg weight, we recommend two people lift and position the mirror during installation.
For a clean, flush-wall finish, we recommend pairing this mirror with our heavy-duty mirror fittings kit — a hook-and-loop back-plate system designed to sit flat against solid frames.
